General Safety
The Quansol Mitre System has been designed to Mitre metal, wood or PVC materials and is intended for Professional, DIY and hobbyist purposes. Before using, carefully read the instructions to familiarise yourself and ensure it is operating correctly. Ensure that you fill out the warranty registration form and attach your purchase receipt to the top corner and retain in case of a warranty claim in future.
Installing the Replaceable Saw Guides:
The Quansol Mitre System has a unique Replaceable Saw Guide system that enables the guides to be replaced, ensuring a perfect guide every time. Installation of Inserts is easy, simply remove from packaging, line up within the Saw Guide Housing and push into place firmly (until they click in place). Once installed correctly the top of the Insert should be flush with the top of the Mitre System.
Note: Each Quansol Saw Guide may be interchanged between any of the housing slots. This enables individual Inserts to be moved around depending on usage rates (some angles might be used more than others).
Once the saw guides have been installed correctly it is recommended that you condition them to the saw blade you are using. To do this simply run your saw through the guides a few times prior to using for the first time.
To change or replace an Insert, simply turn the Quansol Mitre System upside down and using your fingers (or long nose pliers) squeeze the two clips together and push out.
Operating the Quansol Mitre System:
- First of all, run the saw through the guides a few times, this will calibrate your saw with the guides.
- Mark and insert the item to be cut, and line up with the appropriate mitre angle desired.
- Hold item in place with one hand (thumb) while the other hand pushes the Clamp Handle closed (towards the box) until the desired clamping pressure is achieved with the Jaw Grips. If cutting soft materials or PVC, avoid applying excessive pressure as this could distort your mitre cut.
- Note: Applying too much force on the clamps could force the back wall of the Quansol out of square. This will effect the accuracy of the mitre.
- Insert saw into the appropriate Saw Guides and perform mitre cut using smooth even cutting strokes. Let the saw do the work, and avoid applying too much force.
- Remove the saw and press the Clamp Release Lever to retract the clamps.
- If fine adjustment required with a file, use the 45˚ & 90˚ File Guides located at each end of the box to smooth or fine adjust your mitre cut.
Note: If desired, the Quansol System may be fastened to a bench or wood block for extra stability. There are two screw holes provided (one at each end) for fastening purposes (fasteners not included).
- Always perform a test cut prior to making your final cut;
- Replace Quansol Saw Guide Inserts regularly to ensure perfect guidance every time;
- For metal use a 12" 300mm hacksaw (32tpi);
- For PVC use a 12" 300mm hacksaw (32tpi) & finish off with some very fine sand paper;
- For wood use a fine toothed tenon or wood saw (14-18 tpi);
- If cutting metal, replace hacksaw blade regularly;
- Ensure your Hacksaw blade is fitted correctly with maximum tension and perfectly straight;
- Make long smooth cutting strokes letting the blade do the work. Avoid applying to much force and maintain a straight and vertical blade;
- Avoid applying too much clamping preasure, this may force back wall out of square;

When Cutting Metal ‘L' Angle Tile Trim
The Quansol Clamps are designed to slide over top of the trim when making a vertical mitre, and for most trims this will work perfectly (left photo). However some brands of ‘L' Angle Trim are not square and have a lip on the front face, this causing the trim to tilt up at the front when clamps are applied. If the trim is not sitting completely flat & square against the Quansol base, the saw will cut on a slight angle resulting in a poor mitre. If this occurs clamp the trim backwards (right photo). This will ensure that the trim is flat & square to the cutting plane and an accurate mitre achieved. Avoid applying too much clamping force, and ensure the 'flange' (flat side that goes behind the tile) is held flat against the base of the Mitre System as clamps are applied.

Tip: Clamping ‘L' Angle Trim using the above method will enable you to see your mark easier while making your mitre.
Tip: When working with full length trim it can sometimes be difficult to hold the trim steady while you measure and mark (as your tape measure keeps falling off the end!). Try clamping the trim in the Quansol first, this will hold it steady and make life easier.
Note: Applying too much force on the clamps could force the back wall of the Quansol out of square. This will effect the accuracy of the mitre.
The Quansol Mitre System is also very good for cutting PVC tile trims. For best results use a 32tpi hacksaw blade and lightly sand edges with very fine sandpaper for a perfect finish. If you have been struggling with the 'Three Way Mitre' then see how simple they are when using the Quansol!
Tip:Clamping PVC trim with too much force will bend the trim out of shape resulting in distorted mitres. To avoid this clamp the trim with the rounded edge facing towards the clamps (as in photo above right) and ensure the flange (flat side that goes behind the tile) is flat against the base of the Mitre System.
It is essential that the Quansol Mitre System is kept clean from any saw dust or filings (especially any metal filings) as these may clog up or wear on the tool effecting the smooth operation of the clamping system. Regularly dust down with a brush or clean with a vacuum cleaner (an old paint brush works perfect for this).
Tip: If clamps become clogged during operation and fail to return, hold the box upside down (holding the release button in) and push the handle in and out a few times. This will clear the clamp jaws of any filings enabling the clamp to work freely again. Cleaning regularly is advised.
Avoid blowing on the tool to clean filings, as this may result in filings getting into eyes.
Always wear eye protection when operating. Keep fingers away from cutting area when in operation.
